Flat hunting success! and coping strategies

This’ll be a brief post, since I’m internetless and reliant on the library for the moment. Anyway, I found a nice flat in Stoke Newington and moved in on Tuesday. A few thins that still need to be taken care of are all the utilities, and a good chunk of the furnishing. Utilities are almost [...]

Ride a Painted Pony

Cheesy I know.  Anyway, I’m learning to spin.  You know your friends are cycling nerds when you say, “I’m taking a spinning class!” and they give you dirty looks and say why don’t you just ride your bike?  YARN, guys.  Also, you know your husband’s friends are music nerds when he tells them you’re taking [...]

Finished: Tulip Toes, plus improvements

I spent the last couple weeks working on these adorable things for a friend of mine, who’s having a baby in May.

Pattern:  Tulip Toes, by Cathy Campaigne for Knitty.
Yarn:  Louet Gems Pearl leftovers
It’s a really quick knit, notwithstanding the “last couple weeks” bit - I mostly did it one or two rows at a time [...]

Centred double decrease from the purl side

Just a brief one for tonight.  I’ve been working on a quick pair of baby socks.  It’s a cute pattern but not very coherently written in my opinion, so I’m fudging a lot of it, and it’s necessitated centred double decreases, including on the purl side.  Google was no help in finding me directions, so [...]

Rip it good.

I’ve managed to finish knitting my Tubey sweater - knitting with a cast is annoying but not impossible.
It looks very nice on its own:

One I actually put it on though, it’s a disaster.  For whatever reason the style just does not get along with my body and I’m definitely not going to take pictures [...]

These are the things I am knitting right now

As in, on the needles currently.

Tubey sweater
Broderie cardigan
Pomatomus socks
Snowflake socks (from now-defunct Magknits)
Twisty cabled arm-warmers (my own design)

And this is what is in the queue - as in, I have the yarn and the pattern:

Leaf lace shawl
Print o’ the Wave shawl

Just in case you were wondering.

This took me a year to finish

I didn’t work on it continuously for a year obviously…

[pictures will be uploaded in a bit, sorry!]

Continuing with the domesticity

In the past couple weeks I have canned:

5 quarts of dill pickles
6 half pints blueberry jam
6 half pints blackberry jam
3 half pints corncob jelly
5 half pints apple cider jelly
7 quarts peaches

And I have a 26 oz. bottle full of mushy peach castoffs turning into booze.
Right now I’m drinking hot [...]

I am the uber-domestic-queen

Today I did laundry. I went to the farmer’s market and got 20 lbs of cherries (plus some corn, broccoli, and favas). I got all that home on my bike. I fixed a flat after riding over a sewer grate the wrong way. I went to Canadian Tire and bought a [...]

I haven't been doing much

Yesterday it finally felt like summer. Almost 20 degrees on the ride home. Love it. I had a nice ride out to Burnaby & back for a meeting. You know, pretty much all I do anymore (besides work) is ride my bike and try to squeeze some knitting in between. [...]
