This is really not so girlish, but I thoroughly dislike getting flowers. Cut flowers anyway. Flowers still growing in a pot are fine. I just really don’t like flowers in a vase. Why waste your money on something that’s going to wilt in three days, especially when growing it involved an unhealthy amount of pesticides and fertilizers being breathed in by poorly paid Guatemalan women, and who knows how many particulate emissions from the refrigerated diesel truck it arrived here in?
Anyway, a couple geologists who are visiting from our Mexican office bought me flowers (for the second time) and I am not sure how to let them know that while I appreciate the sentiment very much, I would really rather they not get me any more flowers.
