great weekend

Wow, I am so tired after putting 130 km on the bike this weekend. 65 each way up to Pender Harbour and back. But it was a super place, really nice B&B, great weekend, great weather… James and I think we’d like to live somewhere along the Sunshine Coast sometime.

uh… imma go take a bath now. I don’t think I want to bike to work tomorrow… I have a blister on my left hand where I normally grip, and my nether regions were getting pretty numb towards the end of the day today.

This entry was really vague so I’m editing it now that I’m done with my bath.

First thing, I’m really really glad we didn’t go all the way up to Egmont. We took the 9:30 ferry and got on the road in Gibsons around 10:30ish. Got to the B&B at 4:30 (although the actual riding time, as in the time during which a speed over 4 km/h was registering on my computer, was 3:34:18). So that was JUST far enough, I was about knackered by the time we got there. I seriously doubt I could have done another 27k! And it meant we had time for a good dinner, a sunset, and a nice evening in the hot tub, too.

Second, the Enchanter B&B is really nice… if you’re ever up that way I’d highly recommend it. Saturday we rented kayaks for half the day, tootled around Pender Harbour, got stuck trying to come out of the narrows when the tide was going in… sat up on some rocks for a while to get away from that. There was a big school of small white jellyfish and we saw two HUGE red ones as well. Plus a ton of starfish. Then we noticed the backeddy and paddled back out even though the tide was still coming in. After that, James had to do some work so I went and sat on the dock, took pictures, and talked with a guy on a sailboat for a bit. Then we (James and I, not the sailboat guy) had dinner at the pub and came back to sit in the hot tub for a while.

And we had a good ride back today… lovely weather, took a few detours through Secret Cove and Halfmoon Bay. It was a bit easier this time… about the same terrain I guess, but I think we’d just been broken in a bit. Average speed 17.6 km/h on the way there and 19.0 back.

Anyway, we had a great time. Too bad we didn’t make it up to Skookumchuck rapids, maybe we’ll take the car up there sometime. P.S. this week is our second anniversary!
