reunion!

I didn’t write much last night because I was tired. So here’s about my weekend in case you wanted to know.

First time visiting the prairies for me. Friday morning off to Winnipeg. Four seats open but only three in business class! James’ dad takes the one in steerage and we have a great time, except for the flight attendant being (I thought) rude. They know who’s flying on an employee pass and it’s really not their job to cater to us; they’re there for the paying passengers. He thought I was being uppity with him, and though I can see how he might have come to that conclusion, I honestly was NOT trying to be like “ooh look at me, I’m special because I’m in first class for dirt cheap!”

Anyway. In Winnipeg for the afternoon, walked around the Forks and the Parliament buildings for a bit. It was nice and pleasantly hot.

Drove to Otterburne in the evening, the reunion was at Providence Bible College since James’ uncle is the president there. On the whole it was pretty good – there were tons of people there since his grandparents had like 10 kids and a lot of them then had 3-6 kids. I felt a bit out of place, didn’t know some people well or at all, but it was fine. Family gossip has probably propagated the idea that I am a permanent fixture in James’ life, which is quite accurate, and so I was welcomed as such.

Not too much to do though, since if you clicked the link above you’ll know that the thing is pretty far from civilization, and it rained a bunch. But we had fun playing games and running around in the rain and chatting with family. I knitted like a fiend too since I’d just made a braided cable bracelet for myself, and Jamie (one of the cousins whom I actually knew before I met James) thought they were very nice and it was her birthday, so I made her one, and then one of the uncles said he’d buy a couple from me… by the time I got back last night I’d made four. I’d forgotten my tapestry needle and had to improvise using a paperclip; this worked surprisingly well.

The showing-pictures-evening was the only exception to the good times. One of the uncles brought a powerpoint projector and so pretty much anyone with any pictures they wanted to show could do so. We saw: James’ dad’s pictures from Germany and other random things (including several of me, and I was knitting in every one… har har), cousin C’s pictures from working in the oil patch, cousin R’s pictures from treeplanting this summer, cousin S’s pictures from living in Korea, cousin I getting married, cousin B getting married, Aunt R & Uncle E’s trip to Mexico, and Uncle D and cousin I’s trip to Uganda. LONGEST SLIDE SHOW OF ALL TIME. Especially the wedding bits, I’m pretty sure they were longer than the actual weddings. We started at 8:30 or so and didn’t finish till nearly midnight, no word of a lie. There was an intermission.

Anyway, besides that unpleasantness, it was all very nice and even nicer was all four of us getting on the same flight last night, since it was rather full and things were looking dicey for a bit. It’s nice to be back home.
