Christmas

My parents made me a great little scrapbook of all kinds of my childhood photos and drawings and other random kid things. It was really sweet. My grandparents sent me a set of knives.

Clarksville, Tennessee…. it is huge and flat and sprawling and FUGLY. I don’t know how anyone could stand to live here. My sister brought me and my mom on post for a bit (”post” being Fort Campbell, KY, home of the 101st Airborne Division) and it is even fuglier. Everything looks grey and nasty and the housing is so…. I don’t know… the architects must have been going for a nice mix of Soviet era concrete blocks and trailer park. There are seven elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and a high school on base, all run by the Department of Defense. The surrounding civilian area is a great variety of pancake houses, shabby car dealerships, sketchy-looking tattoo shops, and titty bars. I gotta say, this is the ugliest town I’ve ever visited.

But, my dad was super happy about the calendar I made him, and Emily said the sweater I made looks awesome and she can’t wait till she can wear it (she’s massively pregnant now) and my mom thought it was cute that I made her a coupon for a custom-designed lace shawl since I hadn’t had time to knit it yet. Brother’s present isn’t done yet - I need to visit some art shop or print shop or something.
