long day

I'm ridiculously tired. We finished that stupid house from earlier, but only because all four of us put in 10 hours (10.5 for me). There's much nicer things to be doing from 8 till 8 than painting a house. Now my feet hurt and I've got no energy and it's not even 11 pm on a Friday night and I feel like I should have been in bed hours ago. Bah. 21 and I'm going to bed at the same time as my parents. I feel old.

The thing that's bothering me, though, is the guy on my crew. I've done this house painting shit before and he and the other two girls just started, so I understand that they're not as experienced or whatever. But Renee works her ass off and gets stuff done, while he keeps working at his nice slow pace, disregarding my tips for doing a better faster job, and brushing off my advice on setting goals for himself to beat (“Why bother, I wouldn't come anywhere near hitting them…” he says). This pisses me off. Slow but learning is fine. Slow and content to stay that way isn't cool, especially when we get paid per house and he's taking the same share of the pay as the rest of us while not pulling his weight.

I haven't brought this up explicitly with him because he's really a nice guy and I don't want to hurt his feelings, though I have tried telling him a few times that our group goal for the end of the day is to have such and such done and my personal goal is to do this and that and what's his? and I've been giving him tips on how to do things quicker (ie. “hey Dave, there's no feathersanding in the budget – you're killing yourself for nothing”) but it's in one ear and out the other. I'm not sure if I should bring this up with him, or take it to my manager, or what. :/
